What is it?
The Harmony Xli laser system has different types of heads depending upon the type of treatment required. These heads are referred to as YAG, Vascular dye and IPL. Your nurse will be familar with which head is used for which type of treatment and can advise you accordingly.
What can it be used to treat?
- Thread veins – on legs and face
- Pigmentation – on chest, hands and face
- Age spots
- Port wine birthmarks
- Fine lines
- Open pores
- Aging skin
- Fungal nails
The treatment evens skin tone, refreshes and rejuvenates the complexion leaving a radiant appearance.
How does it work?
The treatment uses gentle pulses of light to lift pigment to the surface and cauterise vessels and reduce redness.
Is it painful?
It feels a little like an elastic band against the skin. Any mild discomfort is temporary. You may feel some warmth and see a bright flash of light when the laser fires, but eye protection in the form of googles will be given at the time of treatment. These must be worn.
Am I likely to get any side-effects?
Some darkening of the pigment can develop over a five day period after treatment, this will subsequently fade and is perfectly normal. To minimise the effect of this, you can wear concealer the next day to cover any marks or redness. Some pinkness and some mild swelling may occur but this does not usually last long. Ice packs and Aloe Vera gel will be applied to minimise any side-effects.
How many treatments am I likely to need?
Depending on the severity, anything between 1 and 5 treatments but your nurse will advise you approximately how many you are likely to need upon consultation.
